Steve Sarvi shows thinks he is a victim first, then a veteran. Rather than proudly running on his service, he uses his two deployments to bash John Kline for not giving enough handouts to vets.

Sarvi just doesn't get it, and it goes far, far beyond the victim vs veteran issue.
The government DOES focus too much on the PTSD angle - many, many of these soldiers actually have mild to moderate brain injuries from blast waves. When you tell them that it is just an emotional injury, and not a physical one, you make them MORE likely to commit suicide. A soldier is accustomed to having his mind as his strongest weapon. When your brain is injured, you can't just drive on through - it is a fundamentally different dynamic.
I know this from personal experience, as my husband was the Mpls Police Bomb Commander, and suffered a blast injury. He had no external injuries at all, but his carotid artery completely collapsed on one side, and he has a brain injury. It took several weeks for doctors to even discover the damage to the artery, and more than a year before his brain injury was properly diagnosed.
During that time, Mpls was trying to deny that Dan had a blast injury, and then tried to force us to stay with a doctor who said my husband was just suffering from PTSD. 3 1/2 years later, they are still trying to abandon our family.
RT knows this, and is one of the people helping Sarvi with his campaign. Yet RT has never even cared enough to call us or visit, or make time to see us at his office. I did run into RT once at an event, and he said he felt bad for my husband, but there was nothing he could do.
If they cared about the survival of the troops, it would be a great opportunity to educate people about undiagnosed brain injuries - but - that might undermine the city's attempt to abandon us.
Contrast that with John Kline. Every time I see him, he has a kind word, and his staff has been very, very compassionate and supportive as well. Unfortunately, the city doesn't really care much what John Kline thinks.
The military and the police are two very similar groups, not only in their missions but in their treatment by politicians. Liberals talk a great game about supporting the troops, but in the end we are doing a job that they abhor at a primitive level-war. Similarly they look at police as an arm of the totalitarian police state they beleive we are in. Rather than seeing us as honorable men and women in uniform, they see us as victims of the government, and as such we are used for political gain.
