Military Appreciation done right

All this week, the Minnesota Zoo is offering a military appreciation week with free admission for all active, reserve and retired military personnel, as well as half price for military families. For my family of four, that turned a $52 admission fee into $18 instead.

The zoo also offers 2 for 1 discounts on the monorail and the Imax theater, as well as 20% off at the gift shops and food vendors. In what I thought was a very classy idea, they gave us wristbands with US flags to let employees know that we are a military family. Everywhere we went, the zoo employees were quick to spot the wristbands and offer the discount without us having to ask.

I have always thought that it is the small things that people or businesses do that mean the most when it comes to recognizing military and veterans. The Minnesota Zoo is not only honoring our military this week, they are doing it in a understated and classy manner.
